2010 Ford Ironman World Champion

Chris McCormack, the Australian known as “Macca,” won the 2010 Ford Ironman World Championship, his second title in four years. The 2010 Ford Ironman World Championship at Kona was a hard fought race that was not decided until the final 2 miles of the grueling 140.6 mile course which includes a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. Macca took home the title with a time of 8 hours, 10 minutes and 37 seconds.

The race was won through a series of gutsy but calculated moves by Macca, beginning on the bike where he pushed the pace and got himself in a group that included some of the strongest cyclists in the world. He began the run in 5th place and flew through the opening miles posting sub-six minute miles to take the lead and separate himself from the field. At mile 22 Macca was caught and ran stride-for-stride with his challenger.  At that point he closed his eyes, gritted his teeth and went for it. Macca ran the last 2 miles alone and crossed the finish line to claim the 2010 Ford Ironman World Championship.
